The post title “22 Frozen Hot Chocolates You Must Make This Summer. " is a good example of urgency I am talking about, its somewhat urgent as it's a must for summer and summer being something that isn't permanent, so you get the picture..
In addition, superlative are great for blog post title, you should include them in your post title whether as adjective or anything else.
Some examples: Perfect, Funniest, Best, Worst, Fastest, Biggest, Most, Strongest, Largest, Greatest, Always, Top, Easiest and many more!
In a nutshell, your post title should contain the following :
Number and/or Trigger word+ Adjectives + Keyword + Promise or Urgency.
Be helpful
When you're writing a blog post with the aim of going viral, you should be helpful and looking forward to address the pain point of people, know what people are struggling with fine solution to their plights, if you're targeting the crowd and you're doubting if your article can get the crowd even if it solves problems, you should use Buzzsumo, it's a tool that shows popularity of a topic based on social share.
Lets say a reader emailed you and ask a question, you decided to write a post that answers that question but you're still doubting if it will get many people's attention or if they might not be interested in the question.
You can use Buzzsumo and search the keywords of that question to know if popular or not. If it's popular, then it shows you might hit the crowd. What if it's too popular? There is nothing hidden under the sun, be unique and rewrite the topic in your own captivating style! If it's not popular, it might be an opportunity for you to explore as there is no competitors. It could also signify that people ain't interested in it. So you will have to make decision of whether or not to write that topic.
WIIIFM
This you should have in mind when ever you're writing a blog posts, it actually means 'What Is In It For Me'. When ever someone come across your article, they carry the WIIIFM on their head. People are always concerned with what you have to offer them, so they want to know what is in your article for them. When you're reading a blog post, ask yourself why should people read this, what's the benefit of those reading it. That's why adding freebies as extra to your article is good.
There is a formula for writing posts that readers love, I actually learnt it from Amy Lynn and it's superb. It's called PTC!
Solve A Problem
Blog posts that solves problems are good for attracting readers, they're usually "how to" do certain stuff, find a problem and solve.
People have problems, study them and help them solve that plight. You can head to Quora, see what people are asking about some certain topics and see if you could help solve it! There are tons of other places you could find people's plight and solve, maybe Facebook groups and more!
Address A Fear
Most people have fears, including myself! We fear several stuffs like what if I run out of money, what if I die, what if I don't have money to maintain my blog, what if my dad don't agree with my career, the list goes on!
You get the picture, people fear certain stuff and would be glad if someone can help relieve that fear to an extent. If you have idea of how any of these fear could be handled, then adress it with a blog posts.
Satisfy A Curiosity
People are curious and wants to know about certain stuffs, you can help them satisfying their curiosity.
Stuffs like why Donald trump is this or that, why this blog is so popular and more. People wants to know why things are the way they are, if you have better insight about their curiosity then blog about it...
Write In Your Own Voice
Write in your own voice, be real and unique. Don't try to write like Mr A or B, yeah it's good to learn some new writing skills; I do that, everyone does. But don't try faking it here, using exact tone like Mr A Or B.
I'm very careful so I won't imitate someone voice even without knowing, that's why I don't write my article immediately I have read similar topic online, when you read someone topic and immediately write yours, you're likely to imitate the voice in the article you've read, this doesn't mean you shouldn't note key points you can easily forget.
Know Your Best Times For Writing!
There are times that's best to write and it differs from person to person, I personally prefer writing in the night as I am free from distractions of any kind.
You should monitor yourself when you're writing and know when you're comfortable and can write without worrying, when you're distraction free, etc.
Personally I don't write when I am sad because may reflect in my writing and my readers might not like it. So know when is best for you to write.
Tell Stories
Telling stories helps increase shares and bring more people to your blog, so tell stories that triggers the emotion, makes someone laugh, amaze or surprised.
Most times stories is what brings readers to your blog!
Know Your Targeted Audience
Before writing an article, think about your targeted audience. Who are you writing for? (Male or Female or even both), What's their age? What's their occupation? What's their location? What's their Qualifications? This are questions that comes in handy when talking about targeted audience.
Don't make the mistake of trying to target everyone or the crowd, just a decent size will do!
Damn Grammatical Rules
Seriously this might not work for everyone but you need to give less or little attention to some certain grammatical rules.
My story, when I started blogging newly, I obeyed grammatical rules that isn't even necessary, I made my blog seems more like I am writing a formal letter. I would not used any form of abbreviations even if it's necessary to spice up my writing, yeah I knew it's gonna add more live to my article but I just wanted to follow the so called grammatical rules, I might want to express laughter by using LOL or Emoji but I won't because the grammatical rules was limiting me.
Truth to be told, some words are better off when you say them your own way than obeying any rule, maybe you read the rules from a top blog. If you feel anything or words will spice up your writing, use it, even if it isn't supported in the grammar rules. That's why I sometimes use words that isn't in any dictionary.
Furthermore, Don't make your writing look like a formal letter or make your readers think a robot wrote the article. That's why I love reading Helene's blog, Christiana's blog, Michelle's blog and more I can't mention. Relate with your readers, have fun in your article but don't go too far by going off and leaving the subject matter!
Lastly, I came across this info graphics about writing perfect blog posts on pinterest and I think it worth mentioning here, see it below, but don't forget to pin it!
Final Thoughts
